I. CLPE Fellowships
Every year the CLPE invites researchers from Canadian and other Universities to conduct
interdisciplinary research at Osgoode Hall Law School. The Fellows are provided with computer
support and access to all physical and virtual library facilities. Office space is available
depending on availability. To support their travel and accommodation, CLPE Fellows are eligible
for a modest needs-based stipend. Fellows are integrated into the intellectual life of the
Law School and the University. While they are free to conduct their research during their stay at
Osgoode, it is expected that they make themselves available to graduate students working in their
fields for consultation. In addition, the fellows are expected to give a presentation on their
work to the Law School in a Public Lecture or Faculty Seminar and to submit a research paper
or an advanced work in progress to the CLPE Research Paper Series. To inquire about the CLPE
Fellowships, please contact CLPE@osgoode.yorku.ca.
II. The CLPE Postdoctoral Fellowship In Transnational & Comparative Studies (2011-2012)
Inspired by Philip C. Jessup’s opposition to the conventional understanding of public and private
international law in 1956, the Comparative Research in Law and Political Economy Network (CLPE) is
offering specialized institutional support for a rising scholar, who wishes to focus on a postdoctoral
research project which addresses social theory, interdisciplinary scholarship and comparative research
in the transnational context of law, society and political economy. The nature of this fellowship is
unique, helping to facilitate a successful candidate’s ambitions to establish an institutional network
between CLPE and at least one other research institution. This program allows the CLPE to act as a medium
for global learning, creating a foundation today for a more cosmopolitan scholarship tomorrow.
The selected candidate will be integrated into the intellectual life of Osgoode Hall Law School
during his or her time in Toronto. She or he will be offered assistance on his or her work through
access to all physical and virtual library facilities at York. Office space will depend upon availability.
She or he is also eligible for a modest stipend. At the other institution(s) within the research network,
the fellow will be expected to establish a post-doctoral fellowship, research fellowship, or some other
appointment/arrangement in which he or she can secure institutional support in a like manner to what is
offered through the CLPE.
A rationale for the connections between the institutions (including the names of mentors that have committed
to guide the candidate in a specific area of his or her proposed research project) must be submitted. The
applicant can devise the program as either a one-year or two-year program. Interested candidates should
submit a proposal of work, a cover letter, a CV, a writing sample, a letters of recommendation from his
or her doctoral supervisor, an additional letter of reference, a letter(s) of confirmation from the additional
research institution(s) in question, and letters of appraisal from each mentor. All required documentation
must to be received by September 15, 2010.
The successful candidate is expected to give a presentation on his or her work to Osgoode Hall Law School
in a Public Lecture or Faculty Seminar and to submit a research paper or an advanced work in progress
to the CLPE Research Paper Series, which is published on www.comparativeresearch.net and distributed
through the Social Science Research Network. To inquire more about this CLPE Fellowships,
